A beloved regional brand pork with deep roots in Hamamatsu — a dedicated feed produces a depth of flavor that is this brand’s greatest pride.
The Enshu area centered on Hamamatsu City has long been known as a land with thriving pig farming. In this land of rich agricultural zones, Tokoton Pork — born in 1990 — is a historically regional brand pork that local production farmers and Hamamatsu City Meat Market have grown together as one. The name embodies the commitment to Enshu pork and a vow of thoroughgoing quality. The defining feature of this brand is the unique rearing method using the dedicated finishing feed ‘Tokoton C7.’ Without using animal protein ingredients — and richly blending cereals such as milo and barley — this dedicated feed is crafted to draw out the clear, clean flavor authentic to pork. Through the animal ingredient-free feed, unnecessary off-odor is suppressed — a clean, refreshing finish is the characteristic. The breed is a three-breed cross — Landrace, Large Yorkshire, and Duroc combined. Under the shipping standard of 190 days of age and 110 kg, the pigs are raised slowly until the meat quality is sufficiently completed. As a result, vividly colored pork of stable quality is delivered to the market. The finely-grained meat quality and appropriate fat balance are evaluated — outstanding compatibility not only in shabu-shabu and tonkatsu but also as the filling in Hamamatsu’s specialty gyoza. With the Hamamatsu Area Brand Pork Promotion Council as the managing body, approximately 5,000 head are shipped annually. By establishing a designated sales store system, thorough quality management is maintained — the effort to ensure that reliably quality pork reaches consumers is ongoing. Having revised standards in 2013 and continued efforts toward further quality improvement — Tokoton Pork is a proud brand pork that has long supported Hamamatsu’s food culture.
