Joshu Stevia Sodachi (Joshu Stevia-Raised Pork) is a brand pork managed by the Stevia Pork Shipping Cooperative, based in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Pig farmers within the prefecture jointly ship animals raised with devoted individual care — a community-rooted brand widely known for being raised healthily under thorough individual animal management. The defining feature of this pork is the dedicated feed with Stevia blended in, designated by the cooperative. Stevia is a type of herb — a plant richly containing diverse nutrients including antioxidants, vitamins, and beta-carotene. A plant-based compound feed processed through an expander to enhance digestibility and absorption, with Stevia uniquely blended in, is given from approximately 120 days of age in the late fattening stage through to shipment. Stevia’s excellent antioxidant action firmly supports the immune system of the pigs, and another defining feature of the devoted rearing management is that after approximately 2 months of age, health maintenance is performed through to shipment with no antibiotics or other medications. Pigs raised healthily in a spacious barn environment are shipped after sufficient days — producing a firm, umami-accumulated meat quality.
