Shonan Pork, with its production area in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a historical domestic brand pork with brand standards established in 1988. Under the production system managed by Sagami Cooperative Fujisawa City Pig Farming Division, approximately 8,000 head are shipped annually — cherished by consumers over many years as a regional brand. From the育 (iku/raising) stage onward, a grain-centered feed is given with a rearing approach of no antibiotic addition. A compound feed combining corn-based with barley and other grains firmly draws out the authentic umami of the pork. No antibiotic addition from the육iku (育/育) (育成/育iku) (育成) stage onward is a reassuring point for consumers who prioritize food safety. The breed is a three-breed cross — Landrace female × Large Yorkshire male F1 as the sow, crossed with Duroc male. Raised to full maturation over 190 days of age and approximately 115 kg — a finely-grained meat quality and elegant flavor are born. Producers confirm the safety of the pork before selling — the richly flavored, finely-grained meat quality earns high evaluation from specialists. Distributed to the market as matured, premium quality pork — the stability of its quality is one of the reasons for its long-standing support.
