Nanshu Natural Pork is a pure plant-based brand pork handled by Nanshu Farm Group — located in a laurel forest at 400 meters above sea level at the southernmost tip of the Osumi Peninsula, Kagoshima Prefecture. During fattening — absolutely no animal-based feed or antimicrobial feed is used — raised slowly only on pure plant-based feed centering on milo, wheat, soybean oil cake, rapeseed oil cake, and wheat bran. Furthermore, from 120 days after birth — corn is not used and wheat is added at 20% — finishing with non-greasy, clean fat. This rearing philosophy is precisely the origin of the name ‘Natural’ — while suppressing linoleic acid that is a cause of gaminess — realizing healthy pork richly containing oleic acid. The breed is a three-breed pig — Duroc male crossed with F1 sow (Landrace × Large Yorkshire) — raised over the relaxed rearing period of 185 days of age. Richly containing Vitamin E and selenium — while having a cleaner flavor compared to standard pork — the authentic umami of pork is firmly concentrated — a major characteristic. The meat quality is finely-grained and soft — the sweetness and elegant umami of the fat stands out. The farm obtained Farm HACCP in 2015 and JGAP in 2018 — internationally proving the high commitment to food safety and environmental conservation. Also having export achievements to Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Thailand — the quality is internationally recognized as well. A pig with outstanding compatibility with preparations simply enjoying the umami of pork such as tonkatsu, thick-cut pork steak, and ginger pork stir-fry.
