Tokachi Kurobuta is a brand pork managed by Yamasa Meat Co., Ltd., based in Obihiro City, Hokkaido. Pure Berkshire breed pigs — and only Berkshire — are selectively raised at two designated farms: Miyamoto Farm and Abe Farm. Certified by the Hokkaido Berkshire Association and designated as a black pig production farm by the Japan Swine Breeders’ Association, the purity of the breed and the quality of rearing are rigorously maintained — giving consumers genuine confidence in every purchase. The Berkshire breed is globally rare; compared to standard pigs, they grow at a slower pace, allowing a rich umami to accumulate slowly and deeply within the muscle over an extended period. Raised through Tokachi’s harsh winter cold, the meat quality is further tightened and firmed — within the finely-grained lean, a deep richness and natural sweetness become concentrated. The fat is pale and beautifully compact, releasing a distinctively premium umami that slowly and warmly spreads across the palate. Shipping age of 200–220 days ensures a long, patient rearing period, resulting in a finely-grained meat quality and a flavor of genuine depth. Annual shipments are limited to approximately 1,200 head, maintaining a deliberate small-scale production while preserving high quality through attentive, individual care for every animal. The primary slaughter facility is Hokkaido Livestock Corporation’s Tokachi Plant, where the pork is processed under hygienic and safe conditions before reaching consumers.
