Tokachi Momohanabuta is an SPF pork from a Japan SPF Pig Association-certified farm, raised in the pristine natural environment of Kiyomizu Town, Tokachi, Hokkaido. The producer, Aoki Pig Farm Co., Ltd., began raising SPF pigs in earnest in 2003. Pigs are raised in a rigorously clean environment with specific pathogens completely eliminated, and the farm undergoes strict annual inspections covering pig health, disease prevention systems, and hygiene management. Its high rearing standards have been widely recognized nationally — the farm has received the Japan SPF Pig Association’s Overall Production Performance Excellence Farm Award multiple times, and has repeatedly won the Grand Prize at the Hokkaido Carcass Competition. The breed is a three-breed cross of Large Yorkshire × Landrace sows with Duroc boars. The dedicated SPF feed uses higher proportions of rice and barley, contributing to the beautiful contrast between lean and fat. The cross-section takes on a vivid color reminiscent of peach blossoms in bloom — the very origin of the brand’s name. The finely-grained, moisture-retentive meat quality results in a moist texture and a rich umami that spreads across the palate. The virtually complete absence of pork off-odor, and the fact that it remains delicious even when cooled, are among its great appeals. Trademark registered in June 2018, this pork has steadily established its place as a Hokkaido brand pork.
