Raised on four herbs — a clean pork with little off-odor.
Herb Buta is a Japanese brand pork (meigara-buta) raised nationwide (designated farms), managed by Nisshin Marubeni Feed Co., Ltd. Breed / crossbreeding: Female (Landrace × Large White) × Male Duroc (LWD three-way cross).
Herb Buta (Herb Pork) is a brand pork that Nisshin Marubeni Feed Co., Ltd. has been developing since 1997. Applying the thinking of ‘food and medicine from the same source’ to feed production — carefully raised on a pure plant-based dedicated feed blending 4 types of herbs: ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and oregano.
Ginger adjusts body moisture and strengthens cell membranes, oregano prevents fat deterioration through antioxidant action, nutmeg promotes appetite and reduces gaminess, cinnamon has antibacterial/antiseptic action — each herb is utilized for maintaining the pig’s health and improving meat quality. By such rearing methods — compared to standard pork, odor intensity approximately 25% suppressed, fat oxidation degree approximately 76% suppressed, drip volume approximately 25% suppressed each — finishing as pork with minimal gaminess and good freshness-keeping. The fat has a gradually spreading sweetness — a clean, concentrated umami flavor can be enjoyed.
The breed is an LWD three-breed cross pig — Duroc (D) male combined with Landrace (L) × Large White (W) female — characterized by soft, juicy texture. Raised to average 180 days of age — with thoroughgoing quality management under original safety standards covering 10 items — after self-inspection at the cutting plant, the pork is shipped.
Produced at carefully selected contracted farms nationwide — approximately 30,000 head distributed annually. Compatible with various pork preparations such as ton-zuke (miso marinade), tonkatsu, ginger pork stir-fry, and steak — in simple preparations making use of the ingredient’s flavor, the appeal of Herb Buta stands out.
