Miyagi Prefecture’s pride — a three-way cross pork of finely-grained meat and rich, full-bodied flavor that stands apart.
Miyagino Pork is a three-breed cross pig based on a breed line developed uniquely by Miyagi Prefecture. The breeding uses the Miyagi-original cross of the ‘Miyagino L2’ Landrace breed line with a Large Yorkshire-cross female sow, then with the Duroc breed ‘Shimofuri Red’ — created by Miyagi Prefecture’s Livestock Experiment Station in 2002 — as the sire. The Miyagino Pork Brand Promotion Council (representative: Governor of Miyagi Prefecture) sets the production standards and is responsible for quality management and production promotion together with registered producers within the prefecture. Raised one by one with devoted care in the rich natural environment of Miyagi Prefecture, using designated compound feed, this pork is distinguished by its finely-grained meat quality and outstanding tenderness. The authentic sweetness and well-balanced richness of this pork never tire the palate — suitable not only for everyday meals but as a special-occasion dish as well. With careful rearing management through approximately 180 days, approximately 14,000 head are shipped annually in consistent quality without variation. Slaughter is carried out at Miyagi Prefecture Meat Distribution Corporation, with delivery to retailers and restaurants throughout the prefecture via ZEN-NOH Miyagi Prefectural Headquarters. Furthermore, a special version called ‘Miyagino Pork Minori’ exists — fed rice for approximately 2 months in the finishing stage — resulting in a brilliantly white fat and an even more pronounced richness and sweetness. A brand pork cherished locally since trademark registration in 1993 — please enjoy its rich flavor in shabu-shabu, tonkatsu, stir-fry, and more.
