Hachimantai Pork Ai is a brand pork raised in the rich natural environment of Hirono Town, Kunohe District, Iwate Prefecture. At the farm managed by Hachimantai Farm (an agricultural cooperative corporation) — an SPF-certified farm — pigs free of specific pathogens are raised under a strict disease prevention system, with a veterinary clinic on the premises and a dedicated resident veterinarian monitoring the health of the pigs day by day. A temperature and ventilation control system applying the latest European technology has been installed, creating a comfortable rearing environment in which pigs can live without stress.
Only compound feed prepared by specialist organizations is used in rearing, with no self-sourced ingredients used at all — ensuring the safety and uniformity of quality of the feed. Liquid feed (water added to feed to create a liquid) is also adopted, a measure that prevents a drop in feed intake even in summer.
The pork produced in this way is characterized by a finely grained, juicy lean with little gamey odor, making it easy to eat. The fat is rich without being greasy, and the aftertaste is refreshingly clean. Under Japan Meat Grading Association grading it boasts a top- and middle-grade ratio of 90% or more, and its stable quality earns high regard from commercial users and restaurants alike.
The shipping age is 150–160 days, with approximately 40,000 head shipped annually via Iwachiku and the Kuji Wide-Area Meat Processing Center, distributed nationwide through JA ZEN-NOH Iwate Prefectural Headquarters. The meat remains tender even after cooling — making it valued for bento and prepared foods — and it is a brand pork enjoyed by many, active everywhere from family tables to professional food service settings.
