Daisetsu Sanroku Sasabuta

From Asahikawa, Hokkaido — a brand pork with immunity enhanced by bamboo grass leaf extracts, delivering minimal off-odor and a beautifully drawn-out umami.

Daisetsu Sanroku Sasabuta is a brand pork from Asahikawa, raised by Eaton Co., Ltd. in Touma Town, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido. In the rich natural environment spreading at the foot of the Taisetsu mountain range, pigs are fed the ‘Yume Series’ designated compound feed by the Japan Swine Industry Cooperative Association, supplemented with an additive derived from bamboo grass leaves — rich in chloroplasts, polysaccharides, and lignin. The functional components in bamboo grass boost the immune system of the pigs, resulting in a superior meat quality with minimal off-odor and the natural, authentic umami of pork prominently expressed — the defining characteristic of this brand. This rearing method, focusing on the unique functional properties of bamboo grass, exemplifies a full embrace of the gifts of Hokkaido’s natural environment. The breed is a three-breed cross — Large Yorkshire × Landrace sows with Duroc boars — raised over 170–185 days to achieve both the fineness of grain and the richness of flavor that define this pork. Slaughter is carried out at Hokkaido Livestock Corporation’s Kamikawa Plant, with a system ensuring production through processing is completed entirely within Hokkaido, preserving freshness. Distribution is then handled by Daisetsuzanroku Co., Ltd. — available at retailers in Asahikawa City as well as through online shopping sites and furusato nozei (hometown tax donation) platforms. From fresh cuts of loin, shoulder loin, and belly to processed products such as roast pork and coarse-ground sausage, it is available in a wide range, delicious in preparations from tonkatsu and ginger pork to yakiniku. Annual shipments of just 125 head make it a rare and carefully managed brand pork. Since trademark registration in September 2010, it has attracted attention as a distinctive Asahikawa brand connecting region and industry.
