Owari Buta

Raised entirely on plant-based feed — a Nagoya brand pork of clean, refreshing umami with a character all its own.

Owari Buta (Owari Pork) is a brand pork managed and operated by Sugimoto Shokunikku Sangyo Co., Ltd., headquartered in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. This brand pork produced by the Sugimoto Group — a long-established meat company founded in Meiji 33 (1900) — has trademark registration and brand standards established in December 2007, with production and distribution under strict quality standards. The defining feature of Owari Buta is the committed rearing method of raising only on plant-based feed. Grain-based feeds such as wheat and milo that improve meat quality are proactively utilized — with absolutely no animal-based feed used. This rearing policy produces a clean flavor with no off-odor and a non-cloying, clean umami without heaviness of the fat. Also, by giving plant-derived feed, the Vitamin E, oleic acid, and inosinic acid contained in the pork are enriched — the umami components of pork are richly cultivated. The breed is based on an LWD three-breed cross construction — Duroc male crossed with Large Yorkshire × Landrace female — realizing a soft, easy-to-eat meat quality. Shipping at around 180 days of age — after fattening to a body weight of 110–120 kg, shipped to Nagoya City Meat Market and distributed through primary wholesaler Sugimoto Shokunikku Sangyo. Annual shipments are 9,600 head — boasting a stable production scale even within Aichi Prefecture — widely handled at restaurants and specialty meat shops in the Tokai area including Nagoya. Befitting the land supporting Nagoya food culture, outstanding compatibility with pork preparations such as miso katsu and ginger pork stir-fry.
