The pride of Towada City, Aomori — a brand pork raised on feed rice and Jiyoso earth-essence, overflowing with natural sweetness.
Komekko Jiyoto is a brand pork produced by Minoru Yoton Co., Ltd. in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture. Minoru Yoton has operated for more than 40 years, handling everything from breeding to fattening in a fully integrated system, with local circular agriculture as the pillar of its management — developing this brand with the goal of contributing to local production for local consumption and improving Japan’s food self-sufficiency rate. The breed is a three-breed cross of Large Yorkshire × Landrace sows with Duroc boars — known for excellent meat color and strong disease resistance. The defining feature of Komekko Jiyoto is the dedicated feed given continuously for 60 or more days in the late fattening stage. Approximately 15% locally-produced feed rice is incorporated, together with a proprietary blend of ‘Jiyoso’ — a mixture of wood vinegar, dried mugwort powder, seaweed powder, and soybean meal — resulting in a reducing sugar level approximately twice that of standard pork. This rearing method suppresses the characteristic off-odor of pork and produces a meat quality where a natural sweetness and umami stand out with every bite. Shipping age is approximately 175 days, and the patient, unhurried rearing is what achieves the finely-grained, superior meat quality. Slaughter is carried out at Towada Meat Processing Center, with approximately 4,200 head reaching local tables annually through Co-op Aomori as the primary distribution channel. The farm actively pursues traceability, JGAP certification, and Farm HACCP — reflecting a sincere commitment to food safety. Please do savor a dish full of the rich sweetness nurtured by Aomori’s land and the honest dedication of the producer.
