Isawa SPF Jiyoto is a brand pork produced in the Isawa Basin of Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, by Isawa Yoton Co., Ltd., a Japan SPF Pig Association-certified farm. SPF stands for Specific Pathogen Free — pigs raised in a healthy environment free of designated pathogens. Raised under strict hygiene management, the meat quality is stable and richly flavorful — a defining characteristic of this brand. Isawa Yoton Co., Ltd., headquartered in the Isawa district of Oshu City, has long been committed to producing high-quality pork. The key distinguishing feature of Isawa SPF Jiyoto lies in the rearing method from 120 days of age. From this stage, the feed incorporates 25% wheat and adds a natural-material-derived ‘Jiyoso’ for pigs — carefully adjusting the pigs’ constitution from the inside out. Through these measures — raising the pigs over a longer period than usual — the finished pork features a beautifully white fat, minimal pork off-odor, and a rich, concentrated flavor. Pigs raised to 180 days of age are then distributed nationwide via Miyagi Prefecture Meat Distribution Corporation and the Tokyo Metropolitan Meat Market.
