Kome no Ko Buta

Blessed by the bounty of the Shonai Plains — a Yamagata brand pork of distinction, raised through liquid feeding.

Kome no Ko Buta (Rice’s Child Pig) is a brand pork raised at ‘Kome no Ko Farm’ — the company-owned farm operated by Taisho Kanayama Ranch Co., Ltd. — in the rich natural environment of Kanayama Town in northeastern Yamagata Prefecture. At this farm, a liquid feed combining a 30% addition of feed rice to the base compound feed, with the further mixing of whey and bread crusts, is carefully given 8 times a day through liquid feeding. This feeding method — giving small amounts multiple times for slow digestion and absorption — cultivates a rich nutritional value: oleic acid content at approximately twice that of standard pork, and Vitamin E at approximately four times. The barn uses a windowless, all-in, all-out system, maintaining disease prevention and hygiene management at a high standard. All-pig artificial insemination using self-collected semen is also implemented, minimizing the risk of introducing external pathogens and raising pigs under safety management that is complete within the farm. Third-party certifications including Farm HACCP (obtained 2018) and JGAP (obtained 2020) have also been obtained, conveying a high level of awareness of safety and reliability. Raised with devoted care to a shipping age of 155 days, the pork is characterized by a finely-grained, tender meat quality and a fat with a clean, refreshing sweetness — never cloying. Approximately 15,500 head are shipped annually, and the brand also won the highest honor at the 2013 Food Industry Exhibition. Please fully enjoy the quality of this pork — nurtured by Yamagata’s land — in shabu-shabu and yakiniku.
