Chorikiton (Super Power Pork), raised in the rich nature of the northern foothills of Mount Haruna in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, is a brand pork whose greatest appeal is its ‘shimofuri’ (marbling). While the standard pig rearing period is 150–180 days, Chorikiton is raised slowly over approximately 210 days. The secret of the meat quality lies in the crossbreeding. By crossing females of rich flavor derived from Chinese black pigs with large-frame males of Landrace origin, a rich umami and firm meat quality are both achieved. The fat’s melting point is as low as approximately 30 degrees — a texture that melts from the moment it enters the mouth can be enjoyed. The beautiful marbling penetrating even to the leg meat visually stimulates the appetite as well. The feed uses ‘fermented feed’ — corn, wheat, and rice grains naturally fermented over approximately 2 weeks. The action of lactic acid bacteria, aspergillus, and yeast regulate the gut environment of the pigs, producing a pork of minimal off-odor and abundant umami. There is also a commitment to the rearing environment: in deep-litter barns, bark compost made from Gunma Prefecture timber is spread as flooring, securing a spacious space for the pigs to move freely without stress. The Chorikiton pork — raised drinking mineral-rich groundwater — develops even deeper umami through approximately 1 week of aging after shipment. As a brand pork with trademark registration obtained in 2021, quality is guaranteed — each animal raised with devoted care by producer Sato can be obtained through designated retailers.
