Kiyokawa Megumi Pork

Raised by the pure waters of Tanzawa — a Kanagawa masterpiece of finely-grained meat and a sweet fat that melts on the tongue.

Kiyokawa Megumi Pork (Kiyokawa Blessed Water Pork) is the only village-branded pork in Kanagawa Prefecture — nurtured in Kiyokawa Village, Aiko District. In the clear water and rich natural environment sourcing from the Tanzawa mountain system, Yamaguchi Pig Farm Co., Ltd. raises each animal with devoted individual care. The name bears ‘Megumi’ (blessing) because the spring water of Tanzawa supports the deliciousness of this pork. Raised freely while receiving the blessing of a mineral-rich clear stream, the pigs are characterized by a finely-grained, soft meat quality and a clean, sweet fat. The minimal meat off-odor and popularity for being easy to eat even by those who dislike pork — its quality proven by winning the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award three times (fiscal years 1998, 2002, and 2004). There is also a thoroughgoing commitment to the feed. From artificial milk through to shipment, a feed self-blended at the farm centered on carefully-selected plant-based ingredients including corn, rice, and soybean meal, tailored to each growth stage, is given. Furthermore, by raising without antibiotic addition from a body weight of 41 kg through to shipment, safe, reliable pork production is practiced. In the selection of breeding pigs as well, the fineness of meat grain is given top priority — and from the first bite, the delicate umami of the meat gradually spreads. Kiyokawa Megumi Pork — raised slowly over 180 days to approximately 115 kg — shines especially in shabu-shabu and pork sauté where the sweetness of the fat stands out, in addition to tonkatsu and ginger pork stir-fry. Also available to taste at the roadside station ‘Michi-no-Eki Kiyokawa’ in Kiyokawa Village, Kanagawa — please do stop by on your next local visit.
