Raised in the land of Niigata — a finely-grained pork of firm, well-defined umami, the brand pork of northern Echigo that the JA Group is proud of.
Kita Echigo Pioneer Pork is a brand pork produced at pig farming households managed by JA Kita Niigata (formerly JA Kita Echigo), centered in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture. Established as a brand in 1994 — a historical pork beloved in Niigata Prefecture for over 30 years. The greatest appeal of this pork is its finely-grained, firmly taut meat quality. Umami gradually spreads with every chew — a natural sweetness is felt in the fat. With virtually no scum emerging even when dipped in hot water, it is particularly suited to shabu-shabu — the authentic deliciousness of the ingredient can be savored directly. Also pairs well with tonkatsu and yakiniku — its deliciousness can be fully enjoyed in a wide range of preparations. The feed uses the designated compound feed established by the JA Group (Kumiai compound feed), given planfully based on the fattening manual. By thoroughly maintaining hygiene management and rearing management, a high standard of food safety and reliability is consistently maintained. The breed is a three-breed cross — Landrace, Large Yorkshire, and Duroc — with shipping at 170 days of age and approximately 115 kg as the standard, with a careful fattening system in place. The production farm holds certification as a Clean Pork farm certified by Niigata Prefecture — the commitment to quality management is highly evaluated. Available at major supermarkets and department stores within the prefecture, also popular as a furusato nozei return gift from Shibata City (shabu-shabu set). Annual shipments approximately 1,000 head — high rarity — a particularly noteworthy presence among Niigata-produced pork.
