Yamato Buta Mai Love

Raised in Iwate through a regionally circular system — a brand pork that draws out the full blessings of domestically grown feed rice.

Yamato Buta Mai Love is a brand pork produced by Freeden Co., Ltd., headquartered in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture — a pork that makes full use of the benefits of domestically grown feed rice. High-quality compost from the farm is used to grow feed rice in fallow and converted rice paddies in hilly and mountainous areas, and pigs are then carefully raised on a proprietary compound feed incorporating this self-produced feed rice together with corn as the primary ingredient. This approach to local circular agriculture through cooperation between crop and livestock farming received the Technology and Ideas Award at the 38th Food Industry Technology Merit Award in 2008, and has been highly regarded as a sustainable model bridging agriculture and livestock production. Scientific research has confirmed that feed rice increases oleic acid content and reduces linoleic acid content — producing a pork with an excellent fatty acid balance, gentle both on people and on the natural environment. The breed is a three-breed cross of (Landrace × Large Yorkshire) × Duroc, fattened slowly over 170 days to shipping age. The parent brand ‘Yamato Buta’ has received consecutive three-star awards from the International Taste Institute (ITI) since 2015, with its quality widely recognized domestically and internationally. Freeden holds Japan’s first group JGAP certification in pig farming, maintaining strict management systems to ensure food safety and reliability throughout. Yamato Buta Mai Love — the sincere craftsmanship of Freeden, concentrated from breeding improvement through fattening, processing, and sales.
