Boso Olivia Pork, produced by Marumi Meat Co., Ltd., based in Yokoshiba Hikari Town, Sanbu District, Chiba Prefecture, is a brand pork raised on a proprietary feed adding olive presscake to a grain-centered compound feed. By adding olive presscake to a feed with 77%+ corn, brown rice, and barley, a major difference is brought to the quality of the pork. Olive presscake is richly containing oleic acid and Vitamin E — with the effect of regulating the gut environment and suppressing the characteristic pork off-odor. The Vitamin B1 content is 1.4 to nearly 2 times more than standard pork — the ability to fully enjoy the authentic nutritional value of pork is also an appeal. The defining feature of Boso Olivia Pork is the ‘melt-in-the-mouth feel of the fat.’ With a fat melting point of around 36°C — close to body temperature — a sensation of gently melting from the moment it enters the mouth is felt. Growing on a grain-centered feed produces a finely-grained meat of soft texture. Carefully raised to 185 days of age and approximately 115 kg body weight at the ‘Inoue Honten’ farms in eastern and northeastern Chiba Prefecture, then slaughtered and processed at Chiba Prefecture Meat Corporation. Approximately 9,000 head are shipped annually, distributed primarily through Marumi Meat to restaurants and supermarkets in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Trademark registration and brand standards were established in 2015 — thoroughgoing brand quality management in place. Vitamin B1 is known as a component that also helps with fatigue recovery — a pork to actively incorporate into daily tables. The character of the ingredient stands out in any preparation from tonkatsu and shabu-shabu to ginger pork stir-fry.
