Ebisu Mochi Buta (Ebisu Springy Pork) is a brand pork raised in the rich natural environment of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. The producer — Maruyas Meat Co., Ltd. — manages everything consistently from rearing through slaughter, processing, and delivery — thoroughly committed to all aspects of hygiene, freshness, and safety. Awaji Island, with its geographical characteristics as a remote island, is in an environment where contagious diseases in pigs are difficult to transmit — widely known as a food safety zone. While the PED virus that spread in 2014 had 325 occurrences in Kyushu, infections on Awaji Island were held to 0 cases. In such a reassuring environment, three-breed cross (LWD) pigs — combining Landrace, Large Yorkshire, and Duroc — are carefully fattened to 180–200 days of age. A dedicated designated compound feed incorporating banana is used for the feed. Banana is a food with high sugar content that readily converts to energy in the body — by giving this, a rich sweetness is born in the fat, finished to an elegant fat quality with a low melting point and excellent melt-in-the-mouth feel. Even cuts like the thigh — which might otherwise be dry — are characterized by being moist and soft. The name derives from Ebisu — one of the Seven Lucky Gods — originating from the fact that Awaji Island is a land where faith in the Seven Lucky Gods is thriving. Annual shipments approximately 2,000 head — rare, under designated distribution with thoroughly maintained quality management — steadily gathering support as a special pork also welcomed as a gift.
