Maruhime Pork (Princess Pork) is a brand pork produced by Asari Kanko Co., Ltd. in Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture. The name derives from an affectionate nickname likening the figure of a female pig — grown up plump and healthy — to a ‘princess raised with care.’ The production base — Matsukawa Farm — is located in Gotsu City, rich in nature nestled between the Chugoku Mountains and the Sea of Japan, with a refreshing sea breeze blowing through year-round creating an ideal environment for pig rearing. At the farm, a fermented bedding floor of 40–50 cm depth sawdust is adopted — a clean, comfortable space where the pigs can spend without stress is carefully maintained and managed. The fermented bedding maintains moderate warmth — making a major contribution to creating an environment where the pigs can spend freely making natural behaviors. The breed is a female pig crossing Hypor with Duroc — with the advantage of strong vitality and ease of growing up healthy. At shipping, only individuals that have reached the ‘Superior’ or ‘Premium’ grade are strictly certified as ‘Maruhime Pork.’ The accumulation of such thoroughgoing selection and quality management has supported the trust and value as a brand over many years. For the feed, an original designated compound is adopted — efforts to carefully draw out the inherent umami of the pork continue. By raising slowly to 170 days of age, the exquisite balance of smooth, melting premium fat and taut lean is born. The authentic umami of pork can be enjoyed in various forms — in ginger pork stir-fry, shabu-shabu, katsu, and stir-fry of course, but also in sausages and rice bowl dishes served at the restaurant of Naginoki Terrace.
