Memuro-san SPF Ton is a brand pork produced by Sasaki SPF Farm, located in Memuro Town in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido. SPF stands for ‘Specific Pathogen Free’ — pigs free of specific pathogens as designated by the Japan SPF Pig Association. The farm limits the number of pigs to a scale manageable by just three family members, putting devoted individual attention into every animal every day. Strict hygiene protocols — including mandatory bathing and changing into dedicated clothing before entering the barn — maintain a rigorously clean rearing environment, realizing a medication-free, antibiotic-independent approach to pig health. The farm also practices circular agriculture, returning pig manure as compost to neighboring crop fields, coexisting with Tokachi’s excellent agricultural land while maintaining a sustainable production style. Raised on the pure waters and clear air of Tokachi, using a designated compound feed specific to SPF pigs over 165 days, the resulting pork is virtually free of pork off-odor — characterized by a finely-grained meat quality and excellent moisture retention.
