The pride of Hanamaki City, Iwate — a brand pork nurtured by the very land that inspired Kenji Miyazawa’s beloved world.
Hakkinton Platinum Pork is a brand pork managed by Kogen Seimugi Co., Ltd. in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture. Raised slowly over a long 220 days at three company-owned farms at the foot of the Ou Mountains and in the Kitakami highlands. The breed is an LWB three-breed cross — Landrace × Large Yorkshire sows with Berkshire boars — and it is this combination that creates the unique meat quality of Hakkinton: finely-grained muscle fibers and a thick, substantial fat. With every bite, a moist texture is followed by an umami that slowly and warmly fills the mouth, and the sweetness of the fat is clean, never cloying. The feed incorporates Iwate-grown whole-grain corn and SGS rice grown in collaboration with local farmers, alongside non-GMO grains as the base — with the cooperation between crop and livestock farming drawing out the pork’s deep, authentic umami and sweetness over a long rearing period. Drinking water is natural underground water from the Hanamaki Basin, filtered through mineral stones into activated water — a commitment to quality that extends to every detail. Founded in 1997 as an industry-first restaurant-dedicated brand, it has long been highly regarded by professional chefs. The name is inspired by the word ‘hakkin’ (platinum) from the works of Kenji Miyazawa, the literary giant of the region. This pork — carefully nurtured in the rich natural landscape of Hanamaki — shows its full appeal in a wide range of preparations from shabu-shabu to bacon. From production through processing and shipment, Kogen Seimugi manages everything in an integrated system, continuing to deliver consistently high-quality product.
