Nurtured in the rich pastoral landscape of Kurihara City, Miyagi — a brand pork blessed by pure stream water and the bounty of the earth.
Shiwahime Pork is a brand pork produced in the Shiwahime district of Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture. Shiwahime Swine Co., Ltd. raises every pig with devoted individual care in this land blessed with a rich rural landscape and refreshing water and air, maintaining a comfortable barn environment that gives the animals ample space. The cornerstone of the rearing is the designated compound feed made from 100% domestic grains. Using Tohoku-grown corn and feed rice as the base, with the proprietary addition of charcoal and lactic acid to support gut health, stress-minimized rearing management is practiced every day. The pork born of this devoted rearing environment is characterized by a clean, refined flavor with minimal off-notes — versatile across a wide range of dishes. The finely-grained meat quality has excellent moisture retention, and the juicy, tender texture persists well after cooking due to its ability to hold moisture. The excellent balance of fat and lean and the subtle sweetness lingering in the aftertaste are also distinctive features of Shiwahime Pork, earning support from a wide range of age groups. Pigs born from a three-breed cross of Landrace, Large Yorkshire, and Duroc are raised slowly over 172 days, with approximately 6,000 head shipped annually, distributed primarily through supermarkets and co-ops within Miyagi Prefecture. Rich in Vitamin B1, Shiwahime Pork is a nutritionally well-balanced food that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to the elderly. It remains delicious even when cooled — please enjoy its umami in a wide range of preparations including cold shabu-shabu, stir-fry, and seasonings such as Sendai miso or salt koji-marinated pork.
