Cherry Pork, raised in Honjo City in northern Saitama Prefecture on a proprietary feed combining barley, wheat, corn, and molasses, is a brand pork produced by Sekine Farm Co., Ltd. — known as a brand with history, with trademark registration and brand standards established in 2003. What is indispensable in speaking of Cherry Pork’s meat quality is its beautiful cherry-pink color. The vivid color immediately apparent in cross-section is testament to the pigs being raised in a relaxed manner on a barley-centered feed. Barley and wheat have gentle digestive absorption, with the effect of slowly developing muscles while suppressing stress on the pigs. Furthermore, by adding molasses (a by-product of sugar manufacturing) to the feed, a natural sweetness is drawn out, born as a unique mellow sweetness and sweetness in the fat. The breed is a three-breed cross — (Large Yorkshire female × Landrace male) crossed with Duroc male.
